About Dr. Jane
Dr. Petrozzino is a Learning Consultant and Educational Therapist in private practice and specializes in Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning-related issues. She believes that every child can be a competent learner and seeks to maximize each child's learning potential.
Dr. Petrozzino received a B.A. degree in Elementary Education and an M.Ed. in Special Education in Learning Disabilities. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Supervision from Fordham University where she won the Phi Delta Kappa "Best Dissertation of the Year" Award. Her doctoral dissertation has also been published.
Dr. Petrozzino has a wide range of educational experience in both general and special education. She is a Special Education School Administrator for Curriculum and Instruction and also serves as a Dyslexia Consultant to various school districts. She has held various positions in both private and public schools. Dr. Petrozzino has been a Supervisor of Special Services, Principal, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Executive Regional Director for Special Education, Child Study Team Member, Special and Regular Education Teacher, and College Professor.
Dr. Petrozzino is considered one of 25 experts in the country in the field of Dyslexia and Learning Disabilities. She was selected to represent the United States as a member of a world team to meet with counterparts in Russia, Ukraine, China, and South Africa to exchange technical information. She also served as a Panelist/Consultant to the U.S. Department of Education, Research Branch, Washington, D.C. Dr. Petrozzino had also been selected by the New Jersey Department of Education to be an evaluator for the Model Lesson Awards (Race to the Top) depicting effective teaching best practices in the implementation of the Common Core State Standards and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. She contributes her expertise to a valuable collection of resources for world view. She received training by the Achieve organization (partnered in the development of the Common Core) on their vetted Tri-State Quality Review Rubric.
Dr. Petrozzino is a national speaker and has provided Professional Development workshops for teachers and administrators in both private and public schools in current trends and best practices in the education of students with Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia, and ADHD. She has conducted training seminars on the implementation of the Common Core in Special Education for various school districts throughout New Jersey. Dr. Petrozzino has appeared on national television (CNN) and radio.
Dr. Petrozzino is currently providing state-wide Professional Development Training on Dyslexia for educators to fulfill their two-hour requirement as mandated by the New Jersey Dyslexia law. Trainings have been held for all Directors of Special Education in multiple counties throughout the state, and for thousands of educators in school districts, at the Bergen County Special Education Expo, and for the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association/Foundation for Educational Administration (NJPSA/FEA). She also presented this training at the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Spring Conference.
As a child advocate, Dr. Petrozzino has presented numerous workshops to parents and community organizations on the education of children with Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia, and ADHD. She was a guest speaker for the New Jersey Bar Association on the rights of children with special needs. She also presented at a state-wide convention for Literacy Volunteers of America on the impact of illiteracy in the United States.
Dr. Petrozzino demonstrates leadership ability by having served as an officer for both the Fordham University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa and the Fordham University School Administrators Association. She is a member of the New Jersey Association of Learning Consultants, the International Dyslexia Association, the Learning Disabilities Association, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She is listed in Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in the World.
Dr. Jane is a caring, dedicated professional who has helped my son achieve his goals in reading. With her patience and skill and gifted methods of learning, it is always a pleasure, not a task, for him to attend lessons. Dr. Jane encourages self-reliance and self-confidence to move on to bigger and better achievements.
