Advocacy
For your child's rights
Why Is Advocacy Important?
Understanding your child’s educational needs is critical to helping your child in the school setting, especially if your child has a Learning Disability. Often, parents do not know what services their child is entitled to receive in school, or how to ensure that the appropriate services are given to their child.
What Is The Next Step?
Your Child’s Rights
To help parents with the process of protecting their child’s rights, Dr. Jane will provide guidance about options available to their child in the school setting under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and Section 504 (Rehabilitation Act of 1973).
Developing An IEP
Dr. Jane will attend Child Study Team meetings for parents who have concerns about the educational classification, placement, or program of their child in special education. She will assist in developing an effective IEP (Individualized Education Program) to ensure that their child is receiving the appropriate services and accommodations mandated by federal and state laws.
Writing a 504 Plan
For those students who are not classified, but do have a learning disability, dyslexia, ADHD, or any other disorder which interferes with school performance, Dr. Jane will develop a 504 Plan which entitles the child to specific accommodations in the school setting. This often requires her attendance at a school meeting to formalize the 504 Plan.
